The Dark Knight

Published by todayentertainment at 1:41 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

From the opening scene, “The Dark Knight” lives up to its name. It is definitely the darkest film yet in the Batman franchise. The irony of the tagline “Why so serious?” is the only comic moment you’ll find in the movie.

Director Christopher Nolan brought back Christian Bale to reprise his title role and anyone who has watched entertainment news in the last few months is already well aware of Heath Ledger’s chilling take on Joker.

To be honest I only had two issues with this film.

First, the cast is stellar and there simply wasn’t enough face time for the amazing ensemble that includes Gary Oldham, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Also notably missing from this installment was the usual plethora of new Bat-gadgets, though the few that made an appearance did not disappoint.

This reviewer has to admit to being pleasantly surprised to realize that the posthumous Oscar buzz for Ledger’s performance was not just the politically correct thing to do, he truly brought new depths of evil to the role that left me alternately sitting on and jumping from the edge of my seat. Whether or not he deserves the statue that he will likely receive remains to be seen.

I loved every minute I can’t help but to think that anyone who was under the mistaken notion that this was just another Batman film might be disappointed by the lack of the expected one liners and occasional humor.
